Absense for monday

Hey kids,

I might not be in class on Monday due to being sick. I'm at the moment waiting for a ride to pick me up from work a few hours early because I can barely talk let alone eat any solid food. I'll do my best to come in, if not please let me know what you would need for tomorrow and I'll do my best to get it to you all before class.

On wednesday ryan and I were debating on what to do with my poster and the logo so i'll put the original and the newer version up by tomorrow and let me know which you prefer asap so I can have it ready on Monday. THANKS GUYS!

Youtube Link to Completed Motion Piece

The motion piece is done, (thanks for the imagery Trevor, but unfortunately I finished it before you had posted) Let me know what you all think.

Requested Images

Here are some images I think might be able to work for the motion piece. They all come from morguefile so they are all copyright free and what not. Since these are high rest images they are to big to send through email as attachments (I've gotten a few images that zipped were 12megs) but just follow the links and you can download them

(This is a whole series of wetland images, about 9 pages worth them. I didn't know what you would be looking for so here is the whole set.)

http://morguefile.com/archive/browse/#/?terms_all=wetlands&sort=date_added&page=1&ttl=215&lmt=24

(I can't find any images of the razorback, so these images are of fish that you can't see much detail about. I figure since the class won't know what the fish looks like we can use any fish image)

Thats all I could find that fit the subject matter that was copyright free. If you have any suggestions on other places to looks I'll check them out

Yo People! I did a bit of work on the home page and wanted your thoughts. I had a bunch of trouble laying it out. Fucking web design! What I did was add a table in the main content area to be able to format things. You all may have to do the same unless you can shed some light on where I went wrong. I decided that I'm not going to do a splash page because we don't really need it.

For the motion piece. I have the wetlands movie, but I also need high quality images of the fish, the habitat, or anything else that will take the propaganda slant. Please get them to me via email attachment asap!!!

Thanks.

Water Avengers HQ (header 1)

Greetings!

Welcome to the Water Avengers, a program established by the Denver Zoo to promote the protection and renewal of endangered species across the state of Colorado by working in collaboration with 3rd and 4th graders across the Front Range.

This year’s focus is the Razorback Sucker, a swimming fossil that has been on this planet for nearly a million years. The fish is a large bronze or yellow fish that is distinctively known for it’s sharp-edged keel behind the back of its head. These guys can grow to about 15 pounds and they have been known to live 40 years or more!

But the Razorback Sucker isn’t surviving now.

Over the years, 40 new fish species were introduced into its Colorado home, transforming a once comfortable habitat into one of fierce competition. Add to the mix increased pollution from fertilizers and destruction or degradation of natural habitats and you can start to imagine the task at hand.

The role of the Water Avengers Program is to teach and empower the youth of Colorado that they can make a difference in the world, and work for a greener tomorrow. Students will track their progress and learn invaluable skills through the P.A.C.E. program in conjunction with the Denver Zoo. Please follow our links for more information!

Protection, Activism, Conservation, Education

[Use of secondary logo with PACE logo underneath it]

The PACE program is set in 4 stages to track student’s growth as they become water avengers. This mission will require Protection, Activism, Conservation, and Education.

The Razorback Sucker must be protected in its natural habitat to ensure continued survival. Students must become activists in their community for promoting the survival of endangered species such as the Razorback Sucker. They must conserve the current population, and the habitat it resides in, in order to rebuild the populations. Students will educate themselves and others on the destructible effects of habitat loss and degradation. These will be the tools that will quantify success.

Greetings future water avengers. By the time you receive this, I hope it is not too late. We have a big problem on our hands, and we need your help.

The fish is the Razorback Sucker, a swimming fossil that has been around for nearly a million years. This species was on our earth long before people arrived. It has survived all the ravages of nature, all the wars, the pioneers, you name it. It’s part of the heritage of this entire hemisphere.

We need you to assist in our PACE program, to build up the populations of fish, while we work on controlling the pollution and destruction of their natural habitat. The preservation of the Wetlands will be crucial to your success or failure, and we will all need to do our part to ensure these areas are protected and maintained.

So, without further hesitation, let me explain your mission. The PACE program is set in 4 stages to track your growth as you become a water avenger. This mission will require Protection, Activism, Conservation, and Education. These will be the tools that will determine your success.

You will assist our allies at the Denver Zoo with raising the new wave of Razorback Suckers, from tiny little fry until yearling, monitoring their progress, and then releasing the fish back into the wild when they are equipped to survive on their own. The survival of this swimming dinosaur is in your hands, good luck future Water Avengers.

Wetlands Movie

Ryan,

Here is the wetlands link. I have three others that might have footage, but like Matt said they are all relatively old so I' not sure if they would work with what you were trying to go for with the PSA.

Motion Piece

I'm having a hard time finding footage for the piece  so if anyone has any suggestions on sites where i should look that would be great! (i've looked a lot of archive.org) I can find still images but I'm not sure thats what you were going for Ryan. I'll have all the info typed up for the website by tomorrow.

Trevor - your plan sound good, can't wait to see what you have for tomorrow.

Marketing Plan

On friday Ryan and I had a conversation where we agreed that each group seems to be memorable for certain aspects of the projects. For example: One group is focusing heavily on the motion pieces (the speech boxes), another is working on a flash game and another with heavy print and website design. When it comes to our group I think our strongest point will be our PSA, since I don't believe anyone is actually shooting anything. What I was thinking was that if we wanted to add some icing on the cake to stand out some was if we created a marketing plan / packet and printed it up for the class when the project was due.

During my time doing the whole business side of things before school I read a few marketing plans and what not and have a general idea on what a decent plan / statement should be. If we would be interested in making on, I could write one up this weekend, I'll try to have a small demo to show you all tomorrow on what it would be like.

For the most part it would look like our blogger account here, but with scaled down versions of the posters, the color palette that we are using and why we are using it (a few description words per color), the font with its number and full alphabet as well as size measurements, and a brief description of the water avengers its goals and what it hopes to accomplish and what not. I know it might be some extra work but I think it would also add to the overall grade and professionalism aspect of things. If you can let me know what you think of this idea tonight, or tomorrow.

Weekend Assignment

Hey gang,

So Matt and I will be meeting up to shoot some video for our motion piece tomorrow morning. Matt has also been creating a template in dreamweaver for our website.

Now we need content for it, as well as archive video/photos for both pieces.

So please try and get to a library or find some good stuff out on the interwebs for us to put on the site. Please also make sure that you find creative commons licensing or rewrite the material yourself to provide.

Have a good weekend, let me know if you have any questions.

P.S. Katy I need your cell number when you get a chance.

Final Logos

Small tweaks but we're done. No more logo'n.

Final Logos Comment

I like both logos. I think for what were working towards with the younger generations, the bottom logo works out the best. The top honestly seems to sophisticated for younger kids, so much as I don't think they would even understand what the W.A. stands for until they have been around / in the program for x amount of time. If there was some way you could get around that abbreviation and put the actual title in I think it would work very nicely. If not the bottom one looks good, why did you lose the stroke for the fish I thought that was the best part of it?

Finalized Logos

I cleaned up the logo we agreed upon a bit more, and I started messing around with a secondary logo that might serve as a good extra for whatever we may need. Let me know what you all think.

Attendance Tomorrow

I just wanted to let you know that I may not be coming in tomorrow. I've been sick all day, and have been unable to keep anything down for very long. I'm hoping a good night's rest and tea will put me in a good spot for tomorrow, but I also want to make sure that I don't get anyone else sick in the labs if I'm not up to par.

Feel free to carry out the meeting and let me know how it goes. I'll make any necessary changes to the logo as well so we can move on to our other priorities. I have a few ideas to tweak it, but im in no position health wise to be messing with it.

Sorry for the inconvenience, hopefully I'll see you guys tomorrow.

Rough Poster

Yo so I did a bunch a work on this. I'm not married to any ideas so please tell me how you feel about it.

Logo concept comment (Ryan)

Ryan,

( I don't know if my last comment got through, sorry for the repeat if it did)

I like them both. The colors are really easy on the eyes since they are all similar shades along with the stroke effect of the fish.

I think the second one is better, mostly becuase it looks more like a merit badge that cub scout would earn for doing some kind of an act, if you wanted to expand on it maybe make different versions of it but each one being for doing something. So for example one badge would be for doing X amount of hours of clean up at a communtiy event, another one could be for being a water avenger for x amount of time and such. The only concern that I have with it is that some people might be turned off since it looks similar to the marines seal, but on the flip side others might be attracted to it more so because of it.

The first one seems to much like a license plate, so if we were to fashion it into some metal like a personalized license plate that you could buy in a dollar store it would work. As is I don't know.

Where would you include the other two colors if you were to include them, as circle strokes perhaps?

Trevor

New Logo Ideas

Just a couple different ideas to utilize less color and content. I am happier with the simplicity, but I also worry that we may have lost our demographic in the process. Thoughts?

Poster concept 2.0

Here is the first concept I had for poster rehash. Of course it needs more text and such, but most likely the image itself is what I'm going to be using for it (Using the color palette I couldn't come up with a good looking image using that range of colors, while having a somewhat realistic approach)I don't have the requested text on my PC so what I'm using is a Helvetica 39 thin font, but I can adjust everything as needed on either Sunday or Monday prior / during class. I also have another concept if this one doesn't get a group approval, it would be a circular based image titled "How a wetland works" with text laid out according to step descriptions, similar to the ordered approach from Katie's pyramid concept. Please let me know what you think asap.
